Artist’s Statement:
J. L. King portrays anonymous figures and everyday objects and creatures in curiously extraordinary perspectives. Her paintings reveal vivid scenes through layers, windows, and portals into domains that inspire wonderment and nostalgia. She draws inspiration from urban nature, her biracial heritage, and the pleasures and experiences of youth. Connecting the images is a primary focus which ultimately reveals a personal narrative, and always with a bit of levity.
